More progress!
A victory for slow food over fast food:
So maybe there's hope for civilization after all. (Thanks to Libby Pratt for the link.)
"After a five-year battle, the fast-food giant McDonald’s has retreated from a southern Italian town, defeated by the sheer wholesomeness of a local baker’s bread...[The baker] had merely offered the 65,000 residents tasty filled panini — bread rolls — which they overwhelmingly preferred to hamburgers and chicken nuggets."

Believe it or not, last year the McD here in Koper was shut down. Word goes it didn't have enough business but since it was located in the Hipermarket and was always full I suppose it must have been some other reason.
Oli's OK?
Lilit,
Oli's great! Never a dull moment around here. She's utterly devoted to my daughter, which is great, just what we'd hoped. She's fond of me, too, but obviously I'm second best.
Will you be coming to Ajdovscina again Saturday morning?
Yes, I noticed the McDonald's in Koper had closed. Although philosophically and gastronomically I much prefer slow food over fast food, I'm not a purist (which is just another way of saying I'm a hypocrite I guess!), and I've taken Monika to eat there in the past. 'Course, if there had been a locally owned deli/bakery with delicious homemade sandwiches next to the McDonald's, I would have given them my business, not McD.
I do find it worrying how the little shops in Slovene villages, towns, and cities are closing down, as the big box stores and supermarkets are going up on the periphery...I may blog about this at some point down the line.
Oh yes, I worry about that too. But I suppose it's just a normal part of economical development gone wild or something.
No, on Saturday we'll go take a look at Ljubljana CACIB, for socialization and some aussie eye candy :)
